They can be made days in advance and they set out with some crackers, vegetables, chips, and more. You can even do a mini version by making smaller balls and adding a pretzel or cracker with them when serving.
Our jalapeno popper cheese ball is a spicy and savory treat. Seasoned with our southwest ranch dip mix, bacon, cheese, onions, and diced jalapenos, this fun recipe cannot go wrong. It is great for sports watch parties like the Super Bowl, birthday parties, holiday get-togethers, and more.
Preparing the Cheese Ball Ingredients
Chop and cook up 1 small package of bacon. Drain and set aside.
De-seed and dice up 2-3 jalapenos and set aside. If you want this spicier you will use 3 jalapenos if you want it less spicy you can use less.
Chop ½ cup of green onions and set aside.
Set your cream cheese out to soften. It blamed better when softened.
Mixing Together the Cheese Ball
In a mixing bowl or stand mixer mix together 2- 8 oz bricks of softened cream cheese, 3 tablespoons of sour cream, and 3 tablespoons of Chugwater Chili Dip & Dressing Mix until blended.
Combine in 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, ½ the cooked bacon, ¼ cup diced green onions, and ½ the diced jalapenos.
Take the cream cheese mixture and scoop it out into a ball on plastic wrap. Cover it with plastic wrap and shape it like a ball. (I used gloves and formed the ball shape with my hands, then placed it in the plastic wrap.) You will want to get as much air out of the plastic wrap as possible and wrap the ball tight to form the right shape.
Refrigerate overnight or for up to 3 days. This allows the cheese ball to be set up into the ball shape.
Mix the leftover ingredients into a storage container.
Pull the cream cheese ball out of the refrigerator and remove the plastic wrap.
On a plate place the diced jalapeno, cheddar cheese, bacon, and green onion. If you do not want it to be as spicy you can skip adding the jalapeno pieces to the outside of the cheese ball and use chopped pretzels or nuts instead.
Roll the cream cheese ball on the plate to coat the outside with the jalapeno, cheese, bacon, and onion mixture. If you want, while the cheese ball is still really soft before you refrigerate, you can add the outside coating to the cheese ball and then refrigerate to set it into shape.
