How to Make Salsa?
Salsa has been around for ages with many different types and variations around. It is an easy treat that can be put together in minutes and enjoyed my many.
To make salsa you first need to know what your ingredients will be. These ingredients vary depending on the salsa you make. You could make a tomato-based salsa or a fruit-based salsa for example.
Then you can decide what style of salsa you want to make. You could choose a chunky salsa, pico de gallo style salsa, or smoother restaurant style salsa. Below you will learn an adaptable an easy salsa recipe using our chili seasoning. This recipe is tailored to a chunky or smooth restaurant style salsa.
Step 1: Gather Your Fresh Ingredients
For this fresh salsa recipe you will need 6 medium red tomatoes, ½ red onion, ½ white onion, ½ green bell pepper, 1-3 jalapenos depending on heat preferences (1 for mild, 2 medium, and 3 hot) you also do not need to remove the seeds, 2 limes juiced, 4 garlic cloves, ½-1 cup cilantro depending on your love for cilantro,1 tsp salt and 2 ½ Tbs
Chugwater Chili Gourmet Blend. These fresh ingredients can be found at a grocery store, farmers market, or your own garden.
Sometimes it is best to quarter or halve your tomatoes and onion, so they fit in the food processor better.
Step 2: Chop the Harder Ingredients
After you have gathered your ingredients it is time to start chopping them. In a food processor place the harder ingredients including the peppers, onions, and garlic.
If you want a chunkier salsa you want to make sure to use the pulse setting on your food processor and pulse until you get large chunks. If you want a finer salsa you can chop into finer pieces.
Note: If you are using a smaller food processor you will need break up your ingredients to chop then add the contents to a small bowl after each chop. After you get all of your ingredients chopped you can mix them together in the bowl.
Step 3: Add in the Softer Ingredients
Step 4: Serve and Enjoy!!!
After you have gotten your ingredients chopped to the style you like your fresh homemade salsa is ready to eat. I usually let my salsa sit for at least an hour in the refrigerator before I eat it. This give the seasonings and ingredients a chance to “marinate” together before serving. If you are in a hurry though you can still serve it right out of the food processor.
Note: The photos in the post show a finer more restaurant style salsa. The nice thing about this recipe is that you play around with the style and still get an amazing tasting fresh salsa.
Recipe Notes:
- If you are using a smaller food processor you will need break up your ingredients to chop then add the contents to a small bowl after each chop. After you get all of your ingredients chopped you can mix them together in the bowl.
- If you prefer to use canned ingredients you can just substitute the fresh tomatoes for canned ones.
