How to Cook the Round Steak
In a Dutch oven, cast iron, or regular skillet. Add in a spoon of lard or oil and brown both sides of a round steak. One the sides are browned remove from the skillet and set aside. Note if you prefer to use a venison (wild game like elk or deer) steak you can also use them with this recipe.
How to Make Chili Gravy
Chili gravy is an easy gravy to make that can be used for many meals and purposes. To make this easy chili gravy you will need to in the same skillet you will need to melt 4 Tablespoons of butter and whisk in 1/2 cup of flour. This creates a thickener that will help thicken the chili gravy.
Now pour in about a 1/4 cup of water while whisking in 3 Tablespoons of Chugwater Chili Seasoning. Keep whisking with one hand and pour the remaining 3 ¾ cups of water into the mix. Bring the roux to a simmer or gentle boil. And keep whisking :) You do not want the chili gravy to burn.
Once the chili gravy has thickened to the point where it covers the back of a spoon, add the browned Round Steak back to the pot and let simmer on very low heat for up to an hour this allows the steak to tenderize while it slowly cooks in the gravy.
How to Serve Round Steak with Gravy
